Returning to the Place we Started....
I am hoping to share here some of the brief stories behind the songs on my latest release 'Returning to the Place We Started'.
How Loved Am I Musical joy is a capo on the fifth fret. There is beauty in the small things of life. I am often challenged to be present and not miss out on the beauty around me. This song is a call out: to see how loved we really are. Pretty Stars I am fascinated by the stars. This vast sea of inky space is too elaborate and beautiful to pass off as a random event. This is the story of taking a leap into the beauty of faith, and the journey of letting go. This is where my faith story started….. Overflow I wrote this after a holiday on the Great Ocean Road, where the Aire river meets the sea. The idea of the chords and words came to me on a solitary path ‘down to the sea’. An ancient prophet called Zephaniah wrote of God who ‘rejoices over us with singing’. I have always imagined what his unique song for us would sound like. This is my attempt to imagine one version of that song. His voice with his words pursuing my heart & mind. |
Watertight
This song is an older one that I felt needed a new breathe of life. It’s simple and fun. Written out of a “black dog” season. I am hoping it would be a song for those of us who struggle in emotional health or when life isn’t playing along. Forevermore
The details of this song are a true story: my wife and I, the train, the beach, the rain, the wedding day, the sweet family. When we first started dating, I would write her countless songs. Yet somewhere along the line I got complicated and subscribed to an ideology that you keep things universal. I felt it was time to break out of that and be true to our story. So this is a song of liberation and I totally love it. It is another way I return to the place where I started. |
