Anchor here, the new EP from John Newsome is a work of determination and optimism, exploring themes of hope, faith and trust. Featuring 5 new songs with his trademark blend of pop-flavored rock, Anchor Here demonstrates once more his unique take on adult contemporary sound with a christian outlook.   The artwork of a strong tree with roots set in water, Anchor Here speaks to the power of truth in a post-modern world.

From the upbeat determination of Not Giving Up and Always, his first co-write with producer Jared Haschek , you hear John explore his rock roots, having first found music in rock bands round Newcastle. This is followed by the fierce title track, Anchor, a bold statement on finding truth in an uncertain world.   The EP changes gears into the ballad of Instructions to Build a time machine, which speaks to the need to appreciate the time and season we are in. Finally closing with the deep and determined reflection of “Speak”, written amidst the lockdowns and a desperate hunger for God’s direction.  Speak expresses the strength of “clinging to your word in the mystery”.

Where a lot of music can at times sound formulaic and driven by trends, Anchor here is a bold, creative and expressive work that seeks to redefine what crossover rock from a Christian artist could sound like. There is growth and craftmanship in each of these songs, demonstrating that John Newsome is dedicated to the life of artistry in pursuit of connection and storytelling.
