Creative and gifted, John Newsome began his musical dreamings in Newcastle, Australia at the age of 14. Song writing came very naturally to John with his first song receiving radio airplay at just 18. Since then John has been captivating audiences small and large with his honest inspiring sounds and exceptional vocal talent. He combines a pop, rock and folk atmosphere that take people on journeys of faith and hope.
John’s music is catchy and infectious, embedded with meaningful poetic lyrics. It’s his versatility as an artist to young, medium young and a bit older, than that make him a quality to look out for.
John is devoted to his marriage and three young children. He has a passion for the local church, and a dedication to teach and train future musicians.
John desires to create eagerly anticipated music in a leafy place with the sun streaming through the trees - inspiring others to reach for their own dreams!

History
John Newsome was born and raised in a little country valley hidden within the steel city of Newcastle, NSW where many of Australia’s finest musical exports have originated. He was always a singer and as a teenager tried desperately to overcome his breaking voice in order to match the notes John Farnham could sing. Discovering the piano at the age of 9, he taught himself the right hand of Chariots of Fire, playing it for hours to anyone who cared to listen. With his breaking voice and a passion for all music of the late 80s, he started writing songs before he found his baby sisters toy ukulele and attempted to teach himself to play. Gaining a real guitar for his 14th birthday, he quickly progressed from Smoke on the water to combining his love for chords, melody and words to write his own songs.
John has always grabbed every small opportunity he could- randomly singing in front of his year 7 class on a dare, busking on streets, singing in bands, performing in school musicals and later at Uni making songs on a Yamaha 4 track recorder for his girlfriend, now wife. He has written songs for children and weekly sings in his church as a worship leader and music director. His voice has broken, his guitar and piano playing have improved and he has progressed from hopeless love songs to greater things. He is as diverse as he is creative, a musical dreamer with a passion to create and inspire. His desire is to put wings on the dreams of the dreamers, both musical and the like.
His Music- Combining sweet rock-acoustic tones of ambience with soulful lyrics over a bed of melodic delight, mixed with anthemic rock. The sound that results is one of hope and inspiration meshed with creativity. Much like when mud cake and hot coffee combine to create a folk rock heaven.
John now performs as a solo artist who pulls together the best musicians to create a heavenly folk rock atmosphere. His debut independently produced album “Mesmerising” from 2007 garnered support on Christian radio and launched him on to the way to realising his musical dreams. His personal desire is to live the dream and live up to the potential he is aware of.
John is a husband of but one wife and father of three soon-to-be genius children who hope to be astronauts on the first mission to Mars, or at least be able to eat at Macca’s every night. He is a gifted communicator and storyteller, connecting with audiences through skilful guitar playing and a voice of amazing range and tone.

Falling Awake is the brand new 11 track album from singer and song writer John Newsome. Infectious, melodic rock and acoustic soul, infused with John’s commanding rich vocals and emotive words that identify with the journey of life.
Falling Awake is all about the realisation of purpose and who we are. Influenced by artists like U2, Delirious, Chris Tomlin and Paul Colman, John's sound is meant to inspire.
The tracks are steeped with resilience and hope and echo an authentic journey.The Falling Awake album is also a package of songs that accompany the live performance. John communicates the stories behind the songs with a resonance to the personal journey of life. With imagination and humour, John brings a refreshing live performance with multimedia to support the sound. He presents the songs as acoustic and intimate or with his full band.
The message of Falling Awake is on the great adventure of life with God. He speaks and sings in churches and pubs, youth groups and schools on the love and grace of God that is tailor made to each and every situation. You'll be either deeply moved or ready to stand up on your seat and shout aloud. Either way, Falling Awake is a fantastic album.
